Karen Kay Buckley

Since her first quilt competition, Karen's quilts have won many local and national awards including six Best of Show awards. In the spring of 1992, her first book "From Basics to Binding: A complete Guide to Making Quilts" was published. She has since published three other books: ":Above and Beyond Basics"; "Love to Quilt … Bears, Bears, Bears"' and "Appliqué Basics: Flower Wreaths". In May of 1992 Karen had her first magazine cover quilt and since that time has had eleven more quilts appear on the cover of major quilting magazines. Karen is very passionate about what she does. She loves designing her quilts and shares her tips and tricks with all her students.
Kay's quilt "Arabesque" is on the cover of the 2010 That Patchwork Place Award Winning Quilts calendar! This quilt won first place at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in 2008, Second Place for Innovative Appliqué Large (an IQA Judged Show) in 2008, Best of Show at the Second Annual American Quilters' Society Show in Des Moines, Iowa in November 2009, and Best Machine Quilting at the 2009 Quilt Odyssey.

Saturday, August 15, 2009 "The Day Before" On-going Demos, In-Store Sales
On the day before the show, visit Rumpled Quilt Skins (across from the train station) to see demos on quilting, embroidery, decorative stitching, software, gadgets, rulers, notions, and sewing accessories. Stop at the hands-on booths, talk to the pros, make new friends, and enter the draw for a door prize, including a Sapphire 870 Sewing machine valued at $2499.00 sponsored by Rumpled Quilt Skins and Husqvarna Viking Canada.
Sunday, August 16th, 2009 "Quilt Stroll 2009" 10:00 - 5:00
Today is our Quilt Stroll! Wander around the grounds and across at the Okotoks Art Gallery to see dozens of beautiful, locally made quilts. Inside the shop, visit the classroom to view our galaxy of machine embroidered quilts and haberdashery. Back in the shop, our sale continues.
Brian Lehman, Canadian Personal Property Appraiser, is our special guest this year. From 12:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, he will be appraising your collectibles. Appraisals are $25 for the first item, $15 for the second and $10 for each additional item. Call us to book a time for you: 403-938-6269.
Also happening at the same time is the Olde Towne Okotoks First Annual "Show and Shine" (Antique and collector cars on location) for car enthusiasts on Sun. Aug. 16, from 9 am-4 pm in downtown Okotoks.. This new event will take place on Elizabeth Street and McRae Street and between 250-500 cars are expected.
