At Rumpled Quilt Skins, we’re very happy to help you maintain your sewing machines and sergers so that they are in the best condition for all your sewing needs. To ensure that your sewing machine remains in peak condition, you should have it serviced at regular intervals. Preventive maintenance will help your machine last for many years.
We try to provide the fastest service possible so that you can get back to your sewing projects. If you prefer, you can schedule an appointment and get same-day service!
Our factory authorized technicians are well versed in most sewing machines and sergers- Husqvarna Viking, White, Pfaff, Singer, Brother, Elna, Janome, Bernina, Kenmore, Babylock to name a few. Cherished old machines kept for sentimental reasons can usually be put back into working order, but our technician will assess whether it is worthwhile for you to do so. You will be given a sincere evaluation of the problems your machine is having. We spend hours on each machine that we service and take pleasure in the work that we do.
Our service price includes all necessary adjustments and in many cases there is no extra charge for installation of replacement parts. Please call for a free consultation on what your machine requires.
A properly serviced sewing machine or serger is clean on both the outside AND the inside. Proper service includes the following: removal of all covers, cleaning and blowing out the lint and dust with an air compressor, removing old and dirty grease, applying oil or grease to all moving parts, checking timing and clearances, replacing all covers, and providing a stitch sample.
We have several recommendations for better care and longevity of your machine:
Change your needle often. A bent or worn needle can cause poor stitches and perhaps burrs on your bobbin case. The cost of a needle is much less than the cost of a ruined project or the frustration of poor quality. Choose an appropriate needle to suit your technique and fabric. And remember, an incorrectly inserted needle can cause damage in the bobbin area.
Cleaning out your bobbin area by using a mini-vac is the one of the best at-home jobs you can do for your machine. Using compressed air will force the lint and dirt into your machine (not where you want it!).
Running your machine every month or two if you are not using it for an extended period of time, will help to prevent it from seizing.
Proper oiling in the correct places with the correct oil will help every machine run smoother, quieter and longer. Not sure where or how? Just ask us and we'll be glad to help.
When you bring your machine for service, remember to bring the correct bobbin, a zig zag foot, foot control and power cord.
Using the correct bobbin is essential. One that looks the same isn't always the best.
